Sam Childers Net Worth $500,000
Sam is the son of Paul, who was an ironworker and also a member of the US Marine Corps. He has two older brothers, and also had a sister who died before even turning one year old due to a heart condition. His family would often change residence while Sam was growing up because of the nature of his father’s job. They settled in Grand Rapids, Minnesota, when Sam was 12, and soon enough he succumbed to cigarettes, alcohol and eventually drugs. This led to his battle with alcoholism, drug addiction and even dealing. Furthermore, Sam also fell in love with motorcycles, and as he got older he joined the Outlaws Motorcycle Club. During the ‘80s, Sam was a part of the motorcycle gang, and in that way increased his net worth, supposedly mostly by illegal means.
However, in 1992 Sam changed his life; his wife, Lynn helped him convert to Christianity at a revival meeting held at an Assembly of God church. That evening, the pastor had an epiphany of Chiders going to Africa in the years to come. Six years later, his prophecy came through, as Sam visited Sudan for the first time. He became familiar with the Lord’s Resistance Army, a rebel group and heterodox Christian cult. Sam thought of them as atrocious, and not long after he made several more trips to Sudan and started the Angels of East Africa, the Children’s Village in Southern Sudan.
Little by little his organization increased and nowadays it is the residence and education center of more than 100 orphans, while thousands of other children were saved from wars that have been going on in the Sudan area. He couldn’t achieve anything on his own, and his wife Lynn stood beside him the whole time, and still helps him in his endeavors.
Sam has authored a book, entitled “Another Man’s War”, in which he depicts his life and experience in Africa. A film, entitled “Machine Gun Preacher”, was released in 2011, based on Sam’s book, starring Gerard Butler as Sam, while his wife Lynn was played by Michelle Monaghan.
Regarding his personal life, before Lynn came into his life, he was married to a stripper named Jaszper; they had two children, a son and daughter, however, his son passed away. Thanks to his efforts, Sam has received a Mother Teresa Award for Social Justice in 2013.
